Alcor Life Extension Foundation is a nonprofit research services organization focused on cryonics, including the preservation of human bodies at low temperatures and the long-term storage of cryopatients. It was founded in 1972 in California as the Alcor Society for Solid State Hypothermia and later renamed, and it is governed by a self-perpetuating board with a fiscally conservative approach. After performing its first human cryopreservation in 1976, the organization relocated its operations to Scottsdale, Arizona, with storage moved there in 1994 due to earthquake risk concerns. Today the foundation reports roughly a thousand members and 117 cryopatients. In 1997 it established the Patient Care Trust to manage and protect funding for cryopatients, and it is described as the only cryonics organization to segregate and protect funding in this way. A recent development notes that Alcor participated in Frozen Dead Guy Days in September 2025.
