The Alameda County Fire Department provides all-risk emergency services to the unincorporated areas of Alameda County (excluding Fairview) and to the cities of San Leandro, Dublin, Newark, Union City and Emeryville, as well as Lawrence Berkeley and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories. Based in Dublin, California at 6363 Clark Avenue, the department operates 29 fire stations and serves a population of about 394,000 across roughly 508 square miles, supported by more than 400 personnel and 100 reserve firefighters. It delivers services such as advanced life support, fire suppression, hazardous materials response, urban search and rescue, water rescue, disaster preparedness, fire prevention and regional dispatch.

ACFD was formed on July 1, 1993 as a dependent special district under the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, consolidating Castro Valley Fire Department, Eden Consolidated Fire Protection District and County Fire Patrol. It administers and operates the Alameda County Regional Emergency Communications Center (ACRECC), which provides dispatch and regional communication services for ACFD, the Alameda County EMS Agency, Camp Parks, and several cities; ACRECC also serves as the Dispatch Status Management Center for Falck ambulance. In August 2025, Alameda County was recognized as a top winner in its population category in the Digital Counties Survey, highlighting the county’s technology leadership.
