The African-American Shakespeare Company is a San Francisco–based performing arts organization founded in 1994. It creates opportunities for actors of color to develop their craft by engaging with major classical roles and aims to broaden access to classic theatre for audiences who have historically been excluded. Productions are designed to blend cultural aesthetics with canonical texts in a way that is lively, engaging, and relevant to contemporary diverse audiences. It is a small to mid-sized organization within the regional theater landscape, focused on inclusive classical theatre. A recent development is a partnership with The CRAFT Institute to co-host the LA Black Creators Summit alongside Support Black Theatre.
