ACS Technologies, Inc. traces its roots to Alabama Copy Systems, founded in 1975 and later operating as Selma Office Machines before expanding into Birmingham and Tuscaloosa in 1988. In its early years the company sold and serviced a range of office equipment, including calculators, IBM typewriters, personal computers, printers, and Ricoh copiers, with a goal of offering a one-stop solution for office needs. When digital equipment became more prevalent, the firm joined with a computer network services provider in 1999, giving rise to ACS Technologies and broadening its focus toward network input and document management.

It operates in the retail office equipment industry from its base in Birmingham, Alabama, serving the greater Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Montgomery and Selma markets. The company evolved into the state's leading Ricoh digital solutions provider, reflecting its emphasis on digital document workflows. Its headquarters remain on Lakeshore Drive in Birmingham, and it maintains a modest-sized workforce with operations under the ACS Technologies, Inc. banner, with a website at acstech.net.
