Abbey National plc operates as a major UK bank, maintaining an extensive branch network carried under the Abbey brand. In addition to Abbey, the group uses Cahoot and, since September 2008, the Bradford and Bingley savings brands, with Cater Allen Limited as a subsidiary. Since 2004 it has been part of the Santander group, and Santander's UK footprint has grown through acquisitions such as the UK Bank Alliance and Leicester.

In March 2022, Abbey Mortgages launched the Oklahoma Catholic Native Schools Project, a collaborative initiative with the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, the Diocese of Tulsa, and St. Gregory’s Abbey. The project aims to study the history and educational experiences of Native students in Oklahoma Catholic boarding schools from 1880 to 1965.
